The Redliner
You meet challenges with confidence and determination every time and do not back down. When you see something that scares you, you tend to move toward it and consider the consequences later. You work hard, and push yourself, move fast and fall hard. This tendency to act now and think later has got you into trouble, you might be starting to wonder how much longer you will get away with it. Injuries, navigational errors and enduring poor conditions have left you considering if it is worth going forward with trail and mountain running. You want to live to run another day, but at the same time your motivation and fulfillment comes from pushing yourself and feeling challenged.
Morning Habits - Identify skills you could gain and strengthen to improve outcomes of your pursuits- orienteering, reading weather apps, technique, gear like poles, spikes, filters for water. Educate yourself about the terrain and region you want your next adventure to be. Take wilderness first aid, ast1/2, route selection etc.
Set yourself up for success - create a balanced schedule for training - make sure to properly strengthen and stretch as well as take rest days randomly. Break the habit of needing intensity. Create objectives to stop mid run to take photos for example.
Before a run - set a goal of running under pace, or practicing with poles, and navigating using different apps etc. Build the skills during training runs that you identified as important for your skill acquisition.
After a run- Do not focus on stats, commit to once a week only for analyzing stats. Feel pride for not going over pace or distance. Focus on having a complete recovery routine, electrolyte, protein intake, stretch and ice areas in need.
Before bed - Journal - create mantras and visualize what feeds your soul about running- beyond the stats of long hard and remote efforts. Brainstorm and list ways you can chase those stats outside of running - for example fast packing, hiking, getting training for skills etc. Which races/events/adventure runs are reasonable in challenge but don't push your safety and well being to the edge?
